How To Submit Photos To Painet
(Submission Guidelines for Photographers)
Our general photo needs include anything and everything. We accept photos
for review from anyone and everyone.
Painet is a referral stock photo agency that works mainly with advertising
agencies, book publishers and graphic designers. We take a standard 50%agency
commission and pay our photographers 50%, quarterly. You may view our standard
contract. Print out, complete and fax (701-947-5933)
or mail (PO Box 431; New Rockford ND 58356) a copy of the contract when
sending your first submission.
Notes: As of July 8, 2002, Painet has changed the photographers' contract
regarding delivery of digital image scans. Painet will now accept a smaller
commission for sales of your images delivered as high resolution scans (16-65mb,when
opened in Photoshop). Save the high resolution scans in the TIFF format.
Use of LZW (lossless) compression is acceptable. Delivery of high resolution
scans on CD or data DVDs is now the preferred method of image delivery.
FTP is also a delivery option. If you wish to FTP to our server, email us at photogs@painetworks.com and request the FTP site address.
You may also submit photos other ways. These include:
- ORIGINAL 35mm color transparencies or 35mm black & white and color
negatives with contact sheets. Mail to Painet, PO Box 431, New Rockford,
ND 58356 USA. Painet does NOT keep your originals. We do a 33mb TIFF scan
and use this to market your images. The original images are returned to
you. Include postage for their return. We will provide you a copy of each scan on DVD. CALL 701-947-5932 (888-966-5932) BEFORE SENDING
ORIGINALS.
- JPEGs (maximum of 100 per day, please) from any formats (not only 35mm)attached
to an email message to photogs@painetworks.com.
Note: If you do not have a photographer's code assigned to you, email
code@painetworks.com and request
a photographers code prior to sending any images. Upon receipt of the code,
insert the code in front of each image ID (attachment filename) being sent.
Scan your JPEG images at a minimum resolution of 512 x 768 pixels minimum,
at 72 dpi or 90 dpi (monitor resolutions) , highest quality. Note: access
http://painetworks.com/scantips.html for
tips on how to submit scanned JPEGs to Painet.
- KODAK PHOTO CDs. Include postage for their return.
On all submissions, please include all pertinent information, such as, address(where
we should send the checks), telephone, fax, cell and pager numbers, email
addresses, etc. (anything and everything that would help us to locate you,
24 hours a day, if necessary).
ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST HAVE DESCRIPTIONS/KEYWORDS FOR THE SLIDES/SCANS,
EITHER INCLUDED WITH THE SUBMISSION OR EMAILED TO photogs@painetworks.com. WE CAN ALSO EXTRACT YOUR DESCRIPTIONS FROM THE IPTC FILE INFO AREA OF YOUR IMAGES; HOWEVER, WE PREFER TO HAVE A MINIMUM SUBMISSION OF 100 IMAGES WHEN USING THE IPTC METHOD.
Note: Read below for tips on how to describe/keyword slides or digital
scans.
NOTES (EXAMPLE):
When attaching images to an email message, make sure the attachment has
your photographer's code as a prefix in the filename. In the example to
follow, your attachment file name would be abc_1234.JPG . DO NOT USE WORDS
OR SPACES IN THE ATTACHMENT FILENAME. It is not necessary to Zip or Stuff
the attachments. They are already compressed sufficiently as JPEGS.
TYPE THE DESCRIPTIONS AND KEYWORDS IN THE EMAIL MESSAGE BODY.
We need your help to present your images in the best possible way. The description
should include keywords which help define the image. For example, if you
took a photo of a young girl standing on an elephant, holding a rat in a
cage, and the Washington memorial can be seen in the background. The typed
entry (IN THE EMAIL MESSAGE BODY) might appear as:
abc_1234.JPG girl child standing elephant holding rat cage front washington
memorial fear courage balance child and animal timidity bravery monument
wahington dc concept contrast MR (25 words maximum)
NOTE: The underscore (_) and .JPG must appear in the typed description/keywords.
where,
abc_ is your photographer's code, and
1234 is your own personal stock ID for the image. Note: Your personal stock
ID can be anything, an arbitrary name or number, or, the image ID from your
database of images. It must be limited to 22 characters and/or numbers.
The personal stock ID is whatever YOU choose to name the photo(s). Be sure
to include the extension .JPG after the stock ID. DO NOT USE WORDS, OR SPACES,
IN YOUR STOCK ID.
Once the descriptions and ID#s are received the image will be entered into
the main database from which searches are made. If a search matches one
of your images, the JPEG image will be e-mailed to the client. If they request
a larger sized image file, we will contact you and request you upload a
larger file to our FTP (File Transfer Protocol) site, or, e-mail a larger
file or send the original to us. On originals, we will make the larger scan
and return the image to you. We pay the FedEx charges.
We will also place your selected images on our website search engine so
that our customers can perform their own searches to find images they wish
to purchase. THIS NORMALLY TAKES 3-4 MONTHS.
In order for the above to work, it is vital that we be able to contact you
24 hours a day, every day of the year. If you have e-mail and check it everyday,
no problem. If not, an answering machine is required.
